There is a lot of information on the web about starting a healthy haircare journey so much that the aspiring hairlista looking for ways to take better care of her hair becomes so overwhelmed that she ends up trying nothing at all.
Here in the healthy haircare community, everyone shares what works for them, techniques which may not work for every other person but that’s not all, every routine seems even more complicated than the previous one, it feels like the healthy hair enthusiasts are on a journey to confuse every newbie that crosses their path. Newbie guide to starting a healthy haircare journey


1.  Which part of the divide do you want to fall into?

Before starting your healthy haircare journey, you need to decide which team you want to belong to. There are two broad groups to choose from, the relaxed hair group or the natural hair group.

2. Know the products you need

The luxurious haircare products you have out there is no joke, the haircare industry is such a lucrative one but I can tell you plainly that you do not need all those products to keep your hair, soft, strong and manageable. Yeah your hair strands need to be strong so it doesn’t break how and whenever it pleases.
Basically you need;
  1. A sulphate free shampoo to clean your hair and scalp
  2. A moisture deep conditioner to infuse moisture into your hair
  3. A protein deep conditioner to strengthen your hair strands
  4. A leave-in conditioner to keep your hair moisturized and soft
  5. A natural oil to seal in the oil and
  6. A satin bonnet or scarf to protect your hair at night.

3. Use your products correctly

Your shampoo should be used when ever you wash your hair and should be applied directly on your scalp.
The moisture deep conditioner is to be  applied on your hair and covered with a plastic cap for about 30 minutes before washing off. This gives your hair time to absorb the moisture.
A protein deep conditioner should be used once in 4 to 7 weeks depending on the porosity of your hair, apply the same way you do to your moisture deep conditioner.
Leave-in conditioners can be used every other day or whenever your hair feels dry.
Natural hair oil is to be applied after your leave-in conditioner.

4. How often do you want to use your products?

This is totally up to you to decide how often you want to use your products. You can decide to wash your hair every week, once in two weeks or once in 3 weeks however don’t go longer than a month without washing your hair. You can decide to moisturize your hair with your leave in conditioner and oil every day, every other day or when your hair feels dry, it’s totally up to you to decide.
