HAIR GROWTH CHALLENGE UPDATE

HAIR GROWTH CHALLENGE UPDATE

In January I told you all that I’ll embark on a hair growth challenge in a bid to challenge myself to grow longer and healthier hair. I’m back with an update to let you know how it went.

First I have a confession to make. I slacked a lot *covers face* but I’ll tell you my reason, I hope you forgive me. I was heavily pregnant and I just couldn’t stand wash days, the smell of conditioners made me nauseous so I reduced my wash days to twice a month and sometimes once a month, I was lucky I didn’t have to deal with dandruff later on. I however did have product build up due to the long gap between my wash days. To remove the product build up, I used black soap or shampoos containing sulfate for that squeaky clean feel, yeah I know it’s not good but well..

After I had my baby, I didn’t also bother about my hair for a while. I stuck to washing twice a month and putting my hair in cornrows and twists.

Did I retain any length?
Yes I did! My hair is about 12 inches long, I retained about 2½ inches, it was previously 9½ inches
Some tips that helped me retain length even with minimal care includes:

Moisturising

Water, oil and my hair and body butter are my best friends.

Low manipulation

If you do this, I promise you, your hair will thank you.

Gentle detangling

I don’t touch my hair when I don’t feel like it or when I don’t have time. If I’m in a hurry, scarves to the rescue!

That all for now queens! How was your length retention? I hope your hair is treating you well.

Hello lady, I stumbled upon your page as I was searching for ways to moisturize my hair and keep it moistured. I have a 6 month old baby girl and battling postpartum hair loss. Plus my hair is super dry and breaks a lot no matter how much I moisturize it. I believe I have low porosity hair and currently keeping my hair in Cornrowns and twists to try and reduce the shedding. Kindly advise on what i can do to moisturize and maintain the moisture especially, aswell as moisturizing my protective styles to ensure that when I take down my hair isn’t brittle and breaking. Any advise welcome.

I think you’re right on track when it comes to protective styling. You can try moisturising your hair every other day or when you feel you need a moisture boost, use the LOC method to moisturize, since your hair is low porosity, you can try moisturising with a bit of heat ie covering your hair with a plastic cap after applying your leave-in, Also try sleeping with satin scarves too. Since you’re wearing your hair in twists and cornrows, moisturise your hair like you would if it was not a protective style. If you’re keeping up with moisture and it’s still breaking, try to do protein treatment, also try to detangle your hair gently.

If you’re doing all of these already, don’t forget your hair is currently shedding and not every hair that comes off your head actually broke off.

I’ll do post soon on how I’m caring for my hair while dealing with postpartum hair loss. I hope you come back soon. ♥ ♥
